So yeah, the basic review of the new Museum of Modern Art would have to be that the big spaces are nice and airy and pack in a lot of viewers. A whole LOT of viewers.
If you mounted a video camera at the entrance to the Bellagio Casino and to New York’s Museum of Modern Art and taped the endless droves of people entering each edifice and digitally removed the visuals surrounding the people, you would behard-pressed to differentiate which place the crowd was from - middle to upper middle class people playing adventurer for a short jaunt, their cosmopolitan aspirations ever-more apparent as they are as well scrubbed and presentable in their casual finest as ever. And in either Las Vegas or New York, they are embracing the physical locus of culture at its viscerally finest.
To capture them at the piercing of the veil, the crossing of the threshold, the first whiff on the cheek of the institution’s filtered air conditioning - they’d be a mirror, reflect what culture has really accomplished.
